Research Engineer (Renewable Energy)

Manpower are working in partnership with the UK's leading Technology Innovation and Research Centre for Offshore Renewable Energy to find their next Research Engineer

Our client collaborates with researchers, OEMs, academia and technology developers providing insights, advisory services and tangible solutions for real world applications . As their Research Engineer, you will be given the opportunity to support the development, formulation and delivery of highly technical and scientific quality activities related to the research and development of electrical systems-related technology.

The Role

In this role you will play an integral part in the future development of green and sustainable energy systems, in a market that will continue to grow over the coming decades.

You will cover research, development, demonstration and validation activities in the following areas

  • Cable systems & electrical networks including national and transnational systems
  • Grid codes & compliance
  • Energy storage technologies
  • Electrical infrastructure solutions
  • Ancillary services provision including frequency support services

You will also be tasked with publishing high quality research papers and at times be expected to represent the company at technical scientific forums and conferences

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, experience, skills and attributes

  • A PhD / EngD degree in a relevant electrical engineering / scientific discipline is highly desirable
  • 2 or more years of R&D / industrial design experience in the relevant areas of electrical systems
  • Experience in electrical systems/sub-system modelling
  • Experience with one or more of the following software packages; Ansys, MATLAB, PSCAD or equivalent
  • Experience in producing research and/or technical reports
  • Good publication track record
  • Sound stakeholder management skills
  • Innovative and creative thinking
  • High capacity for change and willing to learn and adapt new concepts

A proven track record in the following areas is essential

  • Wind turbine electrical and/or electrical control system related research
  • Wind farm electrical systems
  • Wind turbine/wind farm grid code compliance

Good knowledge in one or more of the following areas is desirable:

  • Energy storage which may include, but is not limited to, hydrogen energy storage technology
  • HVDC technology and topologies
  • The role of cables systems in offshore renewable systems
